On August 18th, 2018, Carolina Thrift hosted our first ever thrift sale in the Great Hall at the UNC Student Union.
Born from a desire to reduce waste and encourage responsible consumerism on UNC’s campus, Carolina Thrift’s inaugural sale was an amazing success!
Within the first hour and a half of opening our doors, we welcomed over 1,300 students into the sale and continued serve hundreds of additional students throughout the day.
Sofas, mini-fridges, chairs, bookshelves, and other furniture items were the first pieces to sell out in what ultimately resulted in over $8,000 of total sales for the day.
At the end of the day, Carolina Thrift profited more than $5,000, which will go towards financing the organization’s future operations and creating a sustainability fund available to UNC clubs and organizations who focus on environmental issues and practices.
Carolina Thrift has every intention in making the annual thrift sale a permanent fixture on UNC’s campus and expanding its activities into other areas where it can positively impact the community and influence students’ consumption habits.
